Audition Notice for Shrek: The Musical

Shrek

Our story’s title character. A big, green, terrifying ogre who lives alone on a swamp. He embarks on a journey to rid his land of fairytale creatures and, along the way, falls in love with Fiona. Begins as a grumpy hermit, but reveals his layers and eventually becomes the hero. Age: 25-40

Vocal Range: A2 – G#4 Will require the wearing of prosthetic makeup. Must be comfortable kissing actress playing Fiona.

Fiona

The beautiful princess of Far Far Away, she transforms into an ogre every night when the sun sets. Rescued by Shrek and eventually falls in love with him. Quirky, blunt, and multitalented, she is not an ordinary princess. Strong Dancer. Must Tap.

Age: 25-35

Vocal Range: F3 – G5 Will require the wearing of prosthetic makeup. Must be comfortable kissing actor playing Shrek.

Donkey

A talking donkey who joins Shrek on the run from Farquaad’s guards. Quite the chatterbox, he is not deterred by Shrek’s looks and practically forces himself into his good graces. Easily frightened and pushy, but also an optimistic with heart.

Age: 20-40s

Vocal Range: C3 – B4

Lord Farquaad

The comically short, ruthless ruler of Duloc. He is in search of a princes to marry so that he can become king. Has an intensely unfair bias against fairytale creatures that stems from a resentment of his father. Self-absorbed, lonely, and cruel.

Age: 25-40

Vocal Range: B2 – D5 Will require actor to perform show on their knees with kneepads.

Dragon

A dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle. She eventually falls in love with Donkey and attempts to keep him there forever. Imposing and flirtatious, but tired of her job as the glorified baby-sitter. Will also perform in Ensemble.

Age: 25-40

Vocal Range: F3 – Eb5

Pinocchio

The leader of the fairytale creatures. He is an animated puppet whose nose grows every time he lies. Plenty of sass with a penchant for lying.

Age: 20s-40s

Vocal Range: E3 – F#4

Fairytale Ensemble (Ages 15+)

Gingy, Big Bad Wolf, Three Little Pigs, White Rabbit, Fairy Godmother, Peter Pan, Wicked Witch, Sugar Plum Fairy, Ugly Duckling, Mama Bear, Papa Bear, Mad Hatter, Humpty Dumpty, Elf

Ensemble Roles (Ages 15+)

Mama Ogre, Papa Ogre, King Harold, Queen Lillian, Angry Mob, Happy People, Captain of the Guards, Guards, Knights, Pied Piper, Tap Dancing Rats, Three Blind Mice, Blue Bird, Bishop.

CHILD ROLES:

Young Shrek (male- playing age 7) will also play Baby Bear, and Dwarf.

Young Fiona (female- playing age 7) will also be in fairytale ensemble.

Teen Fiona (female- playing age 12-15) will also be in fairytale ensemble.

Auditions will be held at the theatre on Airport Drive.


Audition Instructions:

Adults & 15 and up: Please bring 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the show (please do not sing from the show). No a capella singing. Please bring a track to sing with, a bluetooth speaker will be provided to use. If you prefer to sing with an accompanist, one will be at auditions and will be happy to play your audition song. Make sure sheet music is in the correct key.  You will be taught choreography at the start of the auditions, so please come dressed in clothes and shoes you can move in. 

Children 9-14: You will be taught a song from the show to sing, and we will teach you a dance as well. Please come dressed in clothes and shoes you can move in. 


Children ages 9-14 will only be seen on Saturday afternoon. Adults, and 15 and up will be seen on Friday and Saturday evening. 


Callbacks will be by invitation only on Sunday June 28th. 

Friday June 26th 6:00pm (Adults and Ages 15 and up ONLY)

Saturday June 27th 12:00pm (ages 9-14 ONLY)

Saturday June 27th 6:00pm (Adults and Ages 15 and up ONLY)
